Dilanjan Seneviratne Carries KanKalu Through a Cyclone and a Fuel Crisis to Colombo Lotus Tower

On Friday 27 March 2026, KanKalu played to a full house at Colombo Lotus Tower, four months after Cyclone Ditwah forced it off its original date. Dilanjan Seneviratne produced the open-air concert through Outright Play, with Agastra as co-presenter and Hutch as powering partner.

KanKalu was first set for Saturday 29 November 2025. On 28 November, the day before the show, Cyclone Ditwah made landfall in Sri Lanka and the government declared a nationwide state of emergency. By mid-December the International Organization for Migration reported 635 people confirmed dead and 1.76 million affected.

Dilanjan postponed the concert and rescheduled it for March 2026. The new date fell during a second national emergency: Sri Lanka was rationing fuel, and from 18 March the government declared Wednesdays a weekly holiday for public offices, schools, universities and courts.

The show went ahead from 7pm, and every sponsor commitment made for the original date was honoured.

Highlights include:

Headliners: Yohani, Wasthi, Centigradz and Funky Dirt

Band: Mid Lane

Outright Play artists: Sana, Amarsha, Rumalki and Sankha B

Also on the bill: Piyath and Vinuja

Partners: Hutch, Prima KottuMee, PayZy, PickMe Events, Wasthi Productions, WYLD, Licenced, Emerging Media, Bacardi, Bonfire, Tastyy and Scope Cinemas

KanKalu followed Outright Stage Volume 1 in January 2025 under Outright Play, and it opened a year that went on to include Yohani's orchestral concert Aadarei in August.
